This is the Investor Mindset podcast and I'm Steven Pesavento. For as long as I can remember, I've been obsessed with understanding how we can think better, how we can be better, and how we can do better. And each episode, we explore lessons on motivation and mindset for the most successful real estate investors and entrepreneurs in the nation.

Steven here with the Investor Mindset, and I'm excited to talk to you about a topic that I think is so near and dear to my heart. And people ask me this question, why do you go to so many events, and how you think about making sure that you're getting back something in return for spending all of that time traveling across the country, speaking, teaching, engaging all of those things, and it comes down to one philosophy. And this philosophy is I'm always going to an event looking for that $1,000 idea or that $1,000 connection. And what do I mean by that?

Steven Pesavento  01:35

Well, I'm going in with the intent. And I encourage you to take this concept and run with it yourself. I've learned it from others. And I think it's something that'll make a huge difference for you in your world. But when you're going to an event, and you're spending an hour or two hours, or maybe three or four days of your time, you want to go in knowing first off, what is the purpose of your trip? Why are you going? And what is it that you're looking to receive or achieve as a result of being there, knowing your clear purpose going in is going to be key for you being able to, you know, extract some kind of value for you or your business out of it. But second, I like to understand how can I help other people? So that way I can understand when I'm going and I'm approaching folks? How can I be a value to others. So if I'm going in with the intent to be a value to others, the more likely that people are going to also have that same kind of idea of being a value back to me, we talk about this a lot in the investor mindset.

Steven Pesavento  02:33

But what I do is regardless of the level of event that I'm going to whether I'm talking to people who are, you know, selling businesses for hundreds of millions of dollars, or whether I'm at an event where people are just getting started, and they're starry eyed and they're really excited about what's possible, but you know, we're we're not driving on the exact same topic, because we're in different places, is I look to understand, well, what's that $1,000 idea, what's that $1,000 connection or relationship that as a result of being there is going to help move me or my business or I can help move their business or their life forward in some kind of way, shape, or form. And this is a really, really big idea. Because when you can go in with the intent of looking around to build those relationships with other people. From that perspective, no matter what happens, no matter how boring the presentation is, no matter how high level or just getting started, people are in an event, you can always find a way to make sure that it's worth your time,

Steven Pesavento  03:33

Here's a great example, I was just sending an event, it was full of a lot of people who are just getting started. They're very excited. And you know, when you're talking with people are just getting started and you've been in the business, as long as I have, those conversations end up being pretty repetitive, you know, week after week, month after month, you hear this exact same thing from people, and you're excited for them. And you know, I'm excited to see that momentum and motivation going forward. But one of the big benefits when you're in a room like that is the highest level people end up getting a chance to really build a relationship. So at this event, I ended up meeting this person, this person is, you know, doing a lot of real estate, they've got a lot of experience. And I was able to walk away with a new concept or idea related to hiring. And that's going to end up moving my business forward and really, really big way. And it's that kind of thing that you can't plan for or expect it's going to happen, but you can keep your eye open to looking for it. And you'd be surprised in nearly every situation, there's one piece of value and that value might be I never want to do a presentation like that guy did. Or I never want to sound like this person did from stage you know, sounding just like they were underprepared or whatever that might be. So for you, you have to ask yourself, well, what could that be? And get clear on why you're going to these events in the first place. Nothing better than finding a way to connect and add value. So let me know down in the comments below or let me know. Over in the DMs what you typically look for when you're traveling across the country to go to events, to get educated to learn to grow curious, and I'll see you next time
