E331: Reflecting - Steven Pesavento

Episode Notes

In this episode, Steven talks about appreciating where you are while creating that vision of where you want to be. While real estate and investing can bring you to living a better life,  it is always good to reflect on what you do have so that you don’t miss out on those moments and opportunities that will move you forward.

Key Takeaways

  1. Don’t get caught up in the hustle without realizing that the most important piece is actually appreciating where you are today.
  2. Tragedy can bring with it the realization that you should not live in fear but in appreciation.
  3. Share your love and appreciation with others as they may not have the opportunity that day to find it on their own.

Welcome back to the Investor Mindset podcast. I'm your host, Stephen Pesavento. And each week, we share mindset tips and real estate investing strategies to help you take your business and your life to the next level. And today, I'll be talking about I think one of the most important topics when it comes to living a better life and how real estate and investing can help get you there is this idea of appreciating where you're at, while also creating a beautiful vision of where you're going.  And you know, as we get closer and closer to the end of the year, and we head into that holiday season, where we start spending times with our loved ones and our families, it's the thing that we continuously hear about more. And it's that idea of setting goals and setting a vision and setting a mission and reflecting on where we've been so far. All of these things are incredibly valuable. And we'll talk more about them in some future episodes. But one thing I want to share with you is this. This reminder about why it's so important to connect that future vision of tomorrow, that future vision of that life that you want to live that future vision of the reason that you're working hard in your career, that you're building your business that you're thinking about, or investing capital in order to create that freedom, flexibility and fun that you actually are all looking for. And that reason is this. It's that we, as people can get caught up in that hustle in that grind in that flow, doing these things, without realizing that the most important piece is actually appreciating where we're at today. As important that it is as it is for us to have a big mission and to have that vision and set those goals for the next year. And to reflect on all the amazing things that we've accomplished and reflect on those that we have yet to accomplish. It's as critically important for us to be intentional about why we appreciate where we're at today.

You know, some of you know, and some of you have yet to hear this story. But three years ago today, my sister passed away, suddenly in a in a car accident. And she had left my house that morning, and she was stayed with me for a couple of weeks, we got to spend a lot of amazing time together, she left, she drove home, you know eight hours back to Minneapolis, and suddenly, in a fatal car accident. And when that happened, it was the thing that I never thought was possible to happen to me or my family. That stuff only happens to other people. My family doesn't go through tragedy. We're not thinking about cancer or car accidents or overdoses. We don't think about those things that stuff happens to other people had been touched by some of these things, but not in that way where it's somebody you're so close to one of the closest people in my life. And when that happened, it really knocked me off my foundation, I went into a pretty, pretty low, pretty dark place because I think anyone would going through that kind of grief of losing someone that's so close to you, someone that you've shared so many memories with but also that you got to share, reflecting and growth and all of those amazing things that I'm so excited about. And the reason I share this with you today is that when this happened three years ago it it completely changed my life. And I'm grateful for the the realizations that I've had as a result, not grateful that it's happened. I'm not grateful for the pain that I've had to experience. But what I am grateful for is having such a deep reminder about why life is so precious about why it's so important not only to set big goals and to make a huge impact and to live from this place of intention and and really inspiring people to live a better life. It's It's knowing that at any moment it could be our last and so when we live from that place, not in fear but an appreciation.

We can look around at that little moment with our spouse on the couch, that little joke, that moment with a stranger in the grocery store where somebody shows us an act of kindness, that act of kindness that we can show to someone else. And when we can combine that place, that place of living in the moment now of appreciating where we're at, what we're feeling, and what we're appreciative about and grateful for, while also having this vision of incredible experiences that we get to share with other people in the future, those two together, they create a bridge, they create a bridge that is like rocket fuel that allows us to not only live greatly in the moment, but also have the motivation of setup, that amazing feeling every single day. So as we head into the holiday season, and we're sitting down with our loved ones, and we're sitting down with those, our family, some that we love, and some that drive us crazy, it's so important to appreciate the opportunity to be able to do that. Because so many people are heading into the holidays, without being able to have that feeling. And so many people are going to be heading in with the reminder that motivates them to enjoy the most other life. And just as easily, it could have been for me to look at this from a negative perspective and to go down that path. And I hope that by sharing this story with you can inspire you as you're driving in your car today, as you're sitting in front of your computer to take a few minutes. And just reflect and appreciate the moments that you have, say I love you to those people who you care about a little bit more often. And to remember that there's other people out there that maybe aren't having as great of a day. And that you have the opportunity to share some of that love and kindness, even with a stranger. So I appreciate you each listening and all of the amazing, incredible impact that each of you are out there making in the world as you're sitting back reflecting and creating that vision for the future to take a few minutes and a few moments to appreciate where you're at. Thanks for listening. And we'll see you on the next episode.
